YOUR QUESTIONS

Where are you located?

I am located in the boreal mixedwood forest on the Phantom River Refuge, my long-loved land and nature preserve near Rochester, Alberta. I provide counselling to women of this area and beyond (Westlock, Barrhead, and Athabasca) - and beyond even farther!

Are sessions in-person or online?

Sessions are available "remotely" by telephone or computer and in-person in my loft or in nature. It all depends on your needs, desire, and location.

When are sessions available? And how long does each last?

Sessions are available on weekdays. They last 75 minutes, sometimes longer if required or requested. They typically occur once every week or two.

How do I make an appointment?

Just phone me at the number at the top of this page - 1 (587) 578-2580 - or email me via the "LET'S CONNECT!" page (above). I'll reach out as soon as possible, normally within 24 hours. And, then, we'll chat - no charge - to see if we fit!

What happens in my first session?

During your first session, you and I will get to know one another. We'll explore your goals and work ahead, complete administrative paperwork, and begin counselling. If you're comfortable with continued counselling, we'll schedule your next appointment.

How many sessions will it take?

I typically see clients somewhere between 4 to 10 sessions, often more and sometimes less, depending on client needs and goals. Straight-forward issues require fewer sessions while more complex concerns and deeper exploration (root cause vs symptoms) require more sessions and greater commitment. That said, you very well might find yourself feeling better after only a few appointments..

As your work wraps up, we might decide to schedule your appointments further apart. And, once done, you might decide to check in occasionally or work on other issues.

What about my privacy?

To help ensure client privacy, I make every effort to make sure that verbal and written communication is secure. As well, I book time between clients to allow everyone the ability to discretely come and go.

If you have special privacy concerns, just let me know for special arrangements.

Will my session be confidential?

I am not legally allowed to disclose your information without your signed consent. There are limits to your confidentiality, however. These, for example:

  • If the counsellor becomes aware that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected or at risk of being so
  • If the client presents imminent danger to herself or others, or is in imminent danger from someone else
  • If records are subpoenaed by the courts

What's the cost?

  • $200/75-minute sessions
  • $200/1 hour (minimum charge) for other billable services

This cost includes my time, expertise, preparation, record keeping, and processing.

Does insurance pay?

Yes, many insurance policies pay - but make sure to check with your insurance policy first. I do not direct-bill insurance providers. I will provide you a receipt upon payment for insurance submission and tax purposes.

What if I have to cancel?

You may cancel your appointment free of charge with 24-hours notice. Cancellations of less than 24-hours result in a full-session charge (except in emergencies).

To cancel, please text me at 1 (587) 578-2580.

What if I have an emergency outside of business hours?

If you have an after-hours emergency and require immediate attention, please . . .

  • phone 911;
  • see your family doctor;
  • phone the Canadian Mental Health Association 24-hour distress line: (780) 482-HELP (4357) / 1 (800) 232-7288 TOLL FREE. No collect calls;
  • phone AHS Mental Health 24-hour help line: 1 (877) 303-2642 TOLL FREE; or
